The partnership with PrestoSports also included a mobile app to provide fans instant access to scores and news, pushed directly to their smartphones. In addition to the new website, O’Brien also played a pivotal role in the University’s partnership with the Northeast Sports Network (NSN) to provide high-definition live broadcasts of Wesleyan’s home games.

Immediately upon his arrival, O’Brien launched a Flickr page to provide fans thousands of hi-resolution images. Also, in the fall of 2016, he re-launched the Athletics Instagram account and led the redesign of game programs to display a vibrant layout featuring action photos. Prior to the start of the 2017-18 season, O’Brien was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Communications.

Before arriving in Middletown, Conn., O'Brien spent two-and-a-half years at Amherst College. He served as the Assistant Director of Sports Information for nine months before his promotion to Sports Information Director in the summer of 2014. While at Amherst, O’Brien oversaw the transition of Amherst's athletic website to PrestoSports and was instrumental in the school's partnership with NSN as well.

Prior to his arrival at Amherst, O'Brien served as a Communications Assistant at The BIG EAST Conference. He was primarily responsible for selecting conference Players of the Week, maintaining conference statistics and media distribution for women's volleyball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, women's rowing and softball, and he also maintained conference statistics and updated the weekly release for men's basketball.

O'Brien, a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), received his Master's of Business Administration with a Sport Management concentration from the University of New Haven in 2011. During his graduate studies, he worked as a graduate assistant in the sports information office.

Before pursuing a master's degree, he spent two years at Southern Connecticut State University as an Assistant Sports Information Director. He was the primary media contact for baseball, men's basketball, men's and women's cross country and track and field teams, and women's volleyball.

A 2008 graduate of Endicott College, O'Brien received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Sports Management.
