LEWISTON, Maine - The 21st-ranked Wesleyan University women's squash team lost its first match of 2019 on Tuesday evening as the Cardinals were defeated by No. 18 Bates College on the road, 8-1.
With the loss, Wesleyan falls to 3-5 on the year. The Bobcats improved to 3-3.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Emma Smith claimed the lone win for the Cardinals as she swept the No. 9 spot. Smith defeated Tiffany Cervantes decisively, 11-2, 11-0, 11-3.
- In the No. 5 position, Josie Russ played a five-set thriller against Emma Galambos but came up just short. Galambos edged Russ by scores of 15-13, 5-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-8.
- Bates swept the No. 1-4 spots, as well as No. 6-8.
