PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wesleyan wrestling team won 7-of-10 bouts and ended up rolling to a 27-13 dual win at Rhode Island College on Friday night. The Cardinals got a pin from Kolton Gagnon '25 at 285 lbs and rattled off three major decisions and three decision victories to account for the scoreline. Wesleyan moves to 2-3 while the Anchormen drop to 6-9.
- Wrestling against Travis Manick, Gagnon won by pin at 4:03, marking his first win in a dual match for Wesleyan.
- Marco Gaita '23, ranked No. 4 in the Northeast and 13th nationally, highlighted the Cardinals with a 13-3 win by major decision over Christopher McCarthy at 174 lbs.
- CJ Shea '25 was rock solid in an 8-0 major decision victory at 141 lbs over Parris Cooper
- Shailen Savur '25 won his second career dual match bout – first at 133 lbs – in a close 11-8 decision victory over Kwesi Amoa
- Dario Molina '24 posted an unblemished 9-0 major decision win over Michael Pestana at 149 lbs
- Jack Reusing '25 (165 lbs) and Duncan Kreutter (184 lbs) both won by decision in their respective weight class, to help Wesleyan earn enough points to defeat RIC by the 27-13 margin
- Nathan Lackman, currently No. 1 in the Northeast and fifth nationally, took down Aaron Goldman '23 (ranked No. 4 in the Northeast) by a 7-1 decision in a highly-anticipated match between two of the region's best
The Cardinals are back on the mat next weekend with a trip to Oneonta for a quad meet scheduled for Saturday, February 5.
