SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Competing against the fourth-ranked team in New England, the Wesleyan wrestling team lost to Springfield by a score of 33-3. Wesleyan drops to 6-6 on the season while the Pride move to 9-4.
 
The Pride won nine of the 10 bouts on the night, but the 30-point margin could have easily been much closer if Springfield hadn't pulled out close decision victories in six of their nine victories. Five bouts were decided by four points or less as the Cardinals missed opportunities to flip the momentum in the dual.

• RESULTS

Marco Gaita '23 was the lone winner on the night for the Cardinals as he defeated Brayden Grim in a low-scoring bout at 174, with Gaita pulling out a 3-1 victory.
 
Jack Reusing '25 came close at 165 as the sophomore was downed in a 5-3 decision against Myles Leonard. Aris Dashiell '25 dropped a 9-6 decision to Casey Allen at 184 while both Dean Omirly '25 also lost by three points in an 8-5 loss at 197 to Doug Clark.
 
Aaron Goldman '23 came up short going for a score in what was a 5-4 deficit at the time, as the senior ultimately fell 8-4 to Jake Deguire at 157. Kellen Horst '26 came close to outscoring Joseph Parsons in an entertaining 12-9 decision victory for Springfield.
 
Springfield landed a pin at 285 while brothers Joey and Gianni Manginelli won their bouts at 125 and 133, respectively, by way of tech fall and major decision.
 
Wesleyan looks to rebound on Saturday night as the Cardinals play host to Rhode Island College at 7:00 PM for the team's first home dual match of the season.
