NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's track & field team saw the 4x100m relay squad break the school record, leading the Cardinals to a third place showing at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Friday and Saturday. The Cardinals amassed 83 points to finish third out of 21 teams. The host Camels won the competition with 121.5 points.
Wesleyan's 10-year-old 4x100m school record was bested on Saturday, with
Gabby Harris,
Kenzie Kelly '25,
Augusta Burhans '23, and
Grace Devanny '23 combining for a time of 48.01 seconds that won the event and beat a program record of 48.24 set by Idara Foster '16, Alexis Walker '17, Lia Monti '13, and Melissa Luning '16 back in 2013.
More success in the relays came in the 4x400m relay, as Wesleyan captured a win in a photo finish with Conn. College. Wesleyan's team of
Imagen Walters '26,
Kate Hausladen '23, Kelly, and
Sophia Mack '26 ran the event in 4:07.44, just 0.23 seconds ahead of the Camels' relay squad.
The third Cardinal victory of the day came in the 200m as Devanny clocked in at 24.93 seconds, taking first place out of 55 sprinters.
Harris' big day continued as she combined her school record in the 4x100m with a runner-up in the 100m and fifth place in the 200m. Harris put in a personal-best time of 12.31 seconds to finish second out of 48 in the 100m while she also achieved a PR in the 200m at 25.93 seconds, good enough for fifth.
Another tremendous individual effort was turned in by
Jane Hollander '23, who ran the 1500m in a personal-best time of 4:46.81, good enough for a runner-up finish out of 69 competitors in the event.
Stephanie Ager '26 competed in the 3000m steeplechase for the first time and was runner-up, crossing the line in 11:35.98.
Sarah Schlosberg '25 put in a personal-best time of 2:22.69 to finish in 12
th place in the 800m.
Rex Beaver '26 achieved personal-best times in both the 100m (13.26) and 200m (27.68).
Miranda Graves '23 finished fourth in the 10,000m at 37:09.89 while Hausladen was also fourth-best in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 1:08.02.
A couple of Top 5 finishes littered the field events, including a fifth-place finish for
Mallory Elliott '23 in the high jump (1.47m).
Fiona Carroll '25 was fourth-best in the pole vault at 3.10m.
Chiara Christie '23 was one spot out of a Top 5 result, placing sixth in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 30.77m.
Emilia Thornton '23 was 10
th in the javelin at 29.01m.
Claire Edwards '24 placed 12
th out of 42 with a mark of 32.69m in the discus.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Trinity Invitational on Saturday with the full day of competition set to begin at 10 AM.
