MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior kicker/punter Ike Fuchs of the Wesleyan University football team was named the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance during Saturday's impressive 20-0 win over Amherst College during Homecoming Weekend.
Fuchs was responsible for eight of the team's 20 points as he went 2-of-3 on field goal attempts and 2-of-2 on extra points. On the Cardinals' first drive of the game, the senior connected from 45 yards out to put Wesleyan on the board early.
In addition to his play in the field goal game, Fuchs also averaged 37.8 yards per punt, with a long of 49, and placed two of his five attempts inside the 20-yard line.
Fuchs was instrumental in Wesleyan's win over the Purple & White, in which the Cardinals shut out their Little Three archrival for the first time since the 1988 season and just the third time since 1948. It was also the first time Amherst had been shut out since the 2007 campaign.
With the win, Wesleyan improved to 4-1 overall with Bowdoin (0-5), Williams (0-5) and Trinity (5-0) remaining on the 2016 slate. Next Saturday, Oct. 29, the Cardinals host Bowdoin at 12:30 p.m. on Family Weekend.
