HADLEY, Mass. – Junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo of the Wesleyan University football team was named the NESCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance in the Cardinals come-from-behind win Saturday against Bates (41-23). Quarterback Bobby Maimaron of Williams College was the other recipient of the award.
Piccirillo amassed 472 yards of offense Saturday as he went 31-of-44 for 388 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He was a threat with his feet as well, rushing for a team-high 84 yards on 11 carries including a touchdown to bring his total to three on the day.
The junior has thrown for 300 or more yards in three of the team's five games this season. He also currently leads the NESCAC in completions (137), completion percentage (71.7%), yards (1,648), yards per game (329.6), and ranks second in touchdowns (15).
Wesleyan (4-1) returns to the gridiron next Saturday, Oct. 21 and will play at Little Three rival Amherst (4-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
