HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore quarterback Ashton Scott of the Wesleyan football team was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week following his stellar performance yesterday in a 48-12 win over Bates.

Scott did all his damage in the first half as he went 14-of-20 for 192 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions to help guide the Cardinals to a 34-0 halftime lead. He threw two nearly identical touchdown passes in the same area of the end zone to Matthew Simco for 31 yards and Joe Cancarella for 32 yards. He also rushed seven times for 31 yards. With a sizable lead, Scott did not play in the second half.
The sophomore from Brockport, N.Y. currently leads the NESCAC in passing touchdowns with eight and only has one interception on the year. He also ranks sixth in passing yards (193.0/game) and eighth in rushing (63.0 yards/game) as Wesleyan boasts a perfect 3-0 record. Scott is also the second Cardinal to earn a conference weekly award this year, joining freshman Mason Von Jess who earned NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 1.
Wesleyan will look to remain unbeaten next weekend when the Cardinals head to Brunswick, Maine to face Bowdoin. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
