    Quarterback Ashton Scott threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Matthew Simco with six seconds remaining to cap off a thrilling come-from-behind win for the Wesleyan football team as the Cardinals defeated Tufts on Saturday night, under the lights, 20-13.

    Throughout his football journey at Wesleyan, Nick Richards has proven to be an excellent teammate and captain. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native stands at 6’2” and weighs in at 270 pounds, effectively embodying the traditional build of a football player. During his career on the defensive line, Richards has accumulated 43 tackles (17 solo, 26 assisted), 1.5 sacks, and 8.5 tackles-for-loss (*as of 10/15/19). His skills are even more impressive given his late start, having played for the first time as a freshman in high school. 
  • Week 5 Football Preview: Wesleyan vs. Tufts

    Wesleyan (4-0) and Tufts (2-2) meet for the 50th time Saturday in a series that dates back to 1892. An even rivalry has the Jumbos holding a slight 24-23-2 edge, and the last three games have been decided by a total of 13 points, including an overtime win by Wesleyan in 2017. That 2017 meeting under the lights on Andrus Field was just the second night game in school history and featured a thrilling comeback victory by the Cardinals in which WR Eric Meyreles ’19 caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from QB Mark Piccirillo ’19 with just six seconds remaining to force overtime. In the extra stanza, Piccirillo connected with WR Mike Breuler ’18 for the game-winning touchdown and LB Shayne Kaminski sealed the victory with an interception on Tufts’ ensuing drive.

As an avid proponent of sustainability, a passionate choir member, a mentor for students at the MacDonough Elementary School, and one of the four captains of the football team, it can definitely be said that Ryan embodies the multifaceted college experience Wesleyan strives to offer. For someone with such varied interests, and a full schedule, he seems delightfully at ease.

    Junior running back Glenn Smith scored the game-winning touchdown, a 31-yard score with 3:52 remaining in the fourth quarter, to help lead the Wesleyan football team to a 20-13 win over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. 
  • Week 4 Football Preview: Wesleyan at Bowdoin

    On Saturday, October 5th, Wesleyan and Bowdoin will square off on Whittier Field in Brunswick, Maine for the 92nd meeting in a series that started in 1906. The Cardinals hold a commanding 60-29-2 lead against their NESCAC foe and have won seven-straight against the Polar Bears. Wesleyan enters the game with a perfect 3-0 record and is just one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the conference, joining Amherst and Middlebury. Bowdoin is still looking for its first win on the year and is 0-3 entering Saturday’s contest.

    The Wesleyan football team cruised to a commanding 48-12 win over Bates College on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on Andrus Field at Corwin Stadium. The Cardinals held a commanding 34-0 halftime lead en route to the victory.

    Saturday’s matchup between Wesleyan and Bates marks the 38th meeting between the two NESCAC schools since 1923. It’s been a lopsided series with the Cardinals owning a 33-4 edge all-time while having won 13-straight. The Bobcats last win over Wesleyan was an overtime victory in 2005.

    On Saturday, Sept. 21, Wesleyan University and Hamilton College will meet on the gridiron for the 49th time as the Continentals host the Cardinals on Steuben Field. Wesleyan holds a 29-18-1 lead in the all-time series which dates back to 1909, however, the Continentals snapped a six-game losing skid last year as they upset the Cardinals at Corwin Stadium, 33-29.

The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher throughout their collegiate careers.

    The humble beginnings of Wesleyan Alumni, Mark Molina ’81, started with a backpacking trip through Europe before becoming a successful Wall Street lawyer and eventually settling down in his home state of Connecticut. He was a well-rounded student during his four years in Middletown. Not only was he a star on the football team, but Molina was also a history buff and proud brother of Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE).   • Wesleyan Loses to Trinity in Defensive Battle, 9-0

    The Wesleyan University football team held Trinity College scoreless in the first half but the Bantams got on the board in the final 30 minutes to defeat the Cardinals, 9-0 in the 2018 season-finale. Trinity (8-1) claimed its third-straight NESCAC Championship and league-high ninth overall, while Wesleyan concludes the year with a 5-4 mark.
