MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior forward Joseph Kuo of the No. 9 Wesleyan University men's basketball team was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for his stellar performance in two wins over Washington and Lee University, 66-61, and then-No. 4 Marietta College, 81-65, during the Daytona Beach Shootout.
Kuo averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game to help guide the Cardinals to their first-ever top-10 national ranking in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The New York, N.Y. native dropped 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting in the win over Washington and Lee, while also recording two steals, one block and five rebounds. The following day, he netted 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting, and recorded four steals and five boards as Wesleyan knocked off Marietta.
The 6-8 forward is the first Cardinal to earn a weekly award from the conference this season. He currently averages 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to rank 17th and seventh in the NESCAC, respectively. Kuo also ranks seventh in the league with 11 blocks, and his 30 offensive rebounds are third-best.
Wesleyan, riding an 11-game winning streak, returns to the court tonight to host Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. The team's 11-0 start is the second-best in program history, trailing only the 1911-12 team that finished the year with a perfect 13-0 mark.
