HADLEY, Mass. – Junior guard Jordan Bonner of the Wesleyan University men's basketball team has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week following an impressive performance during a 2-0 stretch for the Cardinals which featured a 72-67 overtime win over archrival and No. 3 Williams on Saturday.
Bonner scored at least 20 points in two road wins against Emmanuel (88-68) and the Ephs to help keep the perfect season intact as Wesleyan improved to 6-0 on the year. In the win over the Saints, he dropped 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out two assists and recording two steals. He concluded the week with a 22-point, five-rebound performance at Williams in which he scored six points in OT and converted clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The junior from Houston, Texas currently ranks tied for fifth in the NESCAC in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game. He also ranks fifth in steals (11) and sixth in free throw percentage (83.3) going 30-of-36 from the line. Bonner has scored double-digits in all six games thus far this year with his 22 points against Williams a season-high.
Wesleyan is off to an impressive start to the 2017-18 season and will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 6 when it heads to Vassar for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The Cardinals will then host Brandeis on Saturday, Dec.9 at 1 p.m. for its last game before the winter break.
