MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sophomore guard Austin Hutcherson of the Wesleyan men's basketball team added two more postseason accolades to his resume on Wednesday as he was named a 2019 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Second Team selection, as well as a 2019 D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Second Team honoree.
Hutcherson is one of four athletes to represent the NESCAC on the NABC All-Northeast Teams, joining Kena Gilmour of Hamilton, Bobby Casey of Williams, and Grant Robinson of Amherst. It's Hutcherson's first honor from the NABC, while he was recognized by D3hoops.com for the second year in a row. Last season, Hutcherson was named the D3hoops.com Northeast Co-Rookie of the Year.
The New York native was also named a First Team All-NESCAC selection earlier this year following a stellar sophomore season. He led the Cardinals in 2018-19 in points (20.0 ppg), steals (0.9 spg), and assists (3.2 apg), and ranked second in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and blocks (0.7 bpg). Hutcherson also concluded the season as the NESCAC's leading scorer and free throw shooter, hitting an incredible 88.5% (85-96) of his attempts.
Hutcherson registered four 30-point performances this season and scored in double-figures in all but one game. He helped guide the Cardinals to a 16-9 overall record and 6-4 conference mark.
