WORCESTER, Mass. – Wesleyan University men's crew competed at the 2018 National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Friday, with the Second Varsity 8 boat highlighting the day by taking first in the Petite Final.
The Cardinals finished eighth out of 17 programs in the team point standings, racking up 124 points and surpassing NESCAC foes Trinity (115), Hamilton (90) and Colby (66).
- The Cardinals competed in three races—the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8.
- In the V8, Wesleyan qualified for the Petite Final by placing fourth in its morning heat with a time of 5:56.904. In the afternoon final, the boat finished fifth in the six-team field with a time of 6:01.914, just narrowly edged by RIT who took fourth with a mark of 6:01.004.
- Wesleyan's 2V8 boat posted a time of 6:05.801 in its morning heat to finish fourth out of six boats. In the Petite Final, Wesleyan won the race by a convincing amount, taking first in 6:06.700 while WPI finished in second with a time of 6:10.068.
- The Cardinals also raced in the 3V8 and finished seventh in 6:24.579.
