Wesleyan University men's crew looks poised for another productive year beginning this fall. The Varsity 8 boat is coming off of a ninth-place finish at the New England Rowing Championship, as well as an 11th-place finish at the National Invitational Championship last year.
The Cardinals will open their season racing against powerhouse programs like WPI and Trinity, which will give the crew a good read on where they stand and what work needs to be done moving forward. The 2018 campaign begins with the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford, Conn. this Saturday.
Wesleyan will be guided by Head Coach Phil Carney who enters his 32nd season at the helm of the program. Carney welcomes back assistant coach John Kauffman.
MEET THE TEAM
- The Cardinals return an outstanding senior class of five rowers. Captains Ben Lynch and Sam Pratt are joined by Harrison Malec, Theo Simko, and Jack Sheffer.
- Wesleyan will also look to Will Humphrey, Brendan Joyce and Dominik Sobieszek for key contributions in the V8 again this year.
- Carney is excited to welcome five newcomers this season -- Hayden Galusza, Jimmy McShane, Emmett Nunes, Hudson Dore, and Norman Cotteleer.
"As always in rowing, our expectations need to be in line with our work ethic and our actions. So far, this group has been off to a fantastic start, working hard with great team chemistry. The combination of youth and experience can serve us well, and I believe we have the personnel for a strong year."
