WORCESTER, Mass. - Wesleyan men's crew, seeded No. 1 entering the 2019 New England Rowing Championships, won the Varsity 8 with a time of 6:08.275 at Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday and finished fourth overall in the team point standings with 60.60 points. It's the Cardinals fourth V8 win in program history (1967, 1987, 2004) as they claimed the Rusty Callow Trophy.
Wesleyan, who finished ninth last year in the V8, excelled on Saturday. The Cardinals won their morning heat in 5:58.931 before claiming the title in the grand final.
- In addition to Wesleyan's win in the V8, the Cardinal's Third Varsity 4 boat claimed bronze with a time of 7:12.345, defeating Little Three rival Amherst who finished sixth (7:42.663).
- The Second Varsity 8 placed fourth in the finals with a time of 6:27.156, ahead of Coast Guard (6:36.344) and Colby (6:38.464).
- Wesleyan wraps up the 2018-19 season next Sunday, May 12 at the National Invitational Rowing Championships in Worcester, Mass.
