HARTFORD, Conn. – The Wesleyan University golf team opened its 2018-19 season this weekend at the two-day Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College at the Indian Hill Country Club. The Cardinals, led by freshman Eli Epstein-Lubow, finished seventh in the 10-team field.
Trinity won the tournament with a score of 572 followed by Babson in second (596) and Amherst in third (608). The Cardinals finished ahead of Western New England, Springfield and Elms. Will Rosenfield of Trinity carded the lowest individual score and shot four-under par, carding a 70 both days.
- In his first collegiate invitational, Epstein-Lubow excelled for the Cardinals and shot back-to-back 75's to finish six-over par. His two-day score of 150 finished tied for 11th overall in the tournament.
- Freshman Noah Cate also had an excellent weekend in his collegiate debut as he carded a 76 on Day 1 followed by an 83 on Sunday to finish tied for 30th.
- Rounding out the top performances for the Cardinals were Elliot Witdorchic '19 and George Blinick '19. Witdorchic carded an 86 both days while Blinick shot an 88 on Saturday.
- Wesleyan returns to action next weekend for the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The tournament begins Saturday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.
