AMHERST, Mass. – The higher seeds in each matchup prevailed in the First Round of the 2017 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship at the Davenport Squash Courts on the campus of Amherst College Friday night.
Eighth-seeded Wesleyan (7-7) and ninth-seeded Tufts (11-7) kicked off men's action, with the Cardinals walking away with a 7-2 victory. Despite splitting the four matches that went past three sets, the Cardinals stood strong and tallied five 3-0 sweeps to advance to the next round. Wesleyan will face off against No. 1 Trinity beginning at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Quarterfinals.
Logging four 3-0 matches, No. 6 Amherst (6-6) defeated No. 11 Connecticut College, 9-0. Advancing to the Quarterfinals, Amherst is set to play No. 3 Williams at 12:30 p.m.
In a highly contested battle that saw six of nine matches need four sets or more to determine a winner, No. 7 Bowdoin prevailed, claiming a 7-2 win over No. 10 Hamilton. Bowdoin will resume action versus No. 2 Bates at 12:30 p.m.
Receiving First Round byes, the final 2017 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship contest will pit No. 4 Middlebury College (8-7) against No. 5 Colby College (10-9) beginning at 11 a.m.
