MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Seniors Chris Hart and David Sneed of the 26th-ranked Wesleyan University men's squash team, and junior Laila Samy of the 24th-ranked women's team, will compete in the 2017 College Squash Association (CSA) National Individual Championships this weekend. The three-day tournament begins Friday, March 3 and ends Sunday, March 5. Dartmouth College will serve as this year's host.
Hart and Sneed will represent the men's team after guiding the Cardinals to a Conroy Cup title at the national team championships. Hart, with a 13-7 overall record from the No. 1 position, earned a spot in the Molloy Cup (Men's B Draw) and will compete in the North bracket. A Second Team All-NESCAC selection, Hart is paired up against Gabriel Bassil in the Round of 16. The match is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. on Friday.
Seed concluded an impressive senior season in team competition with an incredible 17-3 overall record, all from the No. 2 position. He earned a spot in the Molloy Cup as well, and will compete in the East bracket. Sneed will go up against Jamie Ruggiero in the Round of 16.
Samy, the 2017 NESCAC Player of the Year and a 2016 All-America selection, eyes a national title after an impressive performance in the tournament a year ago. The Cairo, Egypt native has excelled throughout her career, and is 21-1 overall from the No. 1 position this season to earn a spot in the Ramsay Cup (Women's A Draw). Last year, she reached the semifinals en route to First Team All-America laurels. She will face Olivia Fiechter of Princeton in the Round of 16 on Friday at 4 p.m.
