HADLEY, Mass. – Freshman Sean Choi of the Wesleyan University men's squash team has been selected NESCAC Rookie of the Year by the conference coaches, which was announced Thursday by the league office. Choi was also named an All-NESCAC First Team selection.
The freshman from Jung-gu, Seoul is the second Cardinal to earn the men's rookie of the year honor, joining John Steele '14 who won in 2011. Choi has been excellent this season, posting a 15-5 dual-match record in the No. 1 spot.
"Sean has improved immensely in such a short time at Wesleyan, his potential to be a top player in the NESCAC is exciting," said head coach Shona Kerr. "To receive NESCAC Rookie of the Year and All-NESCAC First Team reflects his commitment and progress to be the very best squash player he can be."
Choi will look to lead Wesleyan at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships this weekend as the Cardinals look to defend their Conroy Cup (D) Division title. They will face Bowdoin in the quarterfinals Friday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. Wesleyan will host the majority of the three-day tournament with the finals scheduled to play at Trinity Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11:30 a.m.
