Men's Swimming and Diving Set to Compete at NESCAC Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn- The Wesleyan University men's swimming and diving team will compete at the 2016 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships which will be held this weekend beginning Friday Feb. 19. The three day event will be held at the Samuelson-Muir Pool on the campus of Williams College. 

Competition will begin each day with the preliminary heats at 10 a.m. The finals will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, 5:50 p.m. on Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. 

Tickets are $8 per session for adults and $3 for children and students. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to the preliminaries and finals.

The NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be broadcasted live by the Northeast Sports Network, and will feature live results throughout the weekend. (Webcast/Live Results) 

The Cardinals enter the championship with a dual meet record of 2-6 overall. Leading the way for Wesleyan are divers Brandon Pearson '18 and Nick Cimino '19, who are the top two entries in the 1-meter diving event. Pearson leads the way with a mark of 453.52 in 11 dives, while Cimino's mark of 286.20 gives the freshman the second best score as he enters his first NESCAC Championship. In addition, Ethan Chupp '18 has the fourth best mark in the event with a score of 259.10.

In swimming events, Spencer Tang '18 and Alex Kapphahn '19 look to lead the group as they will compete in numerous events throughout the weekend. Kapphahn recorded the sixth best time in the 50 yard backstroke (24.62), and the ninth best marks in the 100 yard freestyle (47.42) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:44.94). Tang recorded the 16th  best time in the 50 yard butterfly (24.42), 14th fastest in the 50 yard breaststroke (25.27), 12th best in the 100 yard butterfly (53.04), and 12th fastest in the 200 yard backstroke (1:57.17).
