Softball Falls to Williams in Doubleheader Action

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Wesleyan University softball team dropped both ends of the doubleheader to Williams College on Saturday afternoon.

Wesleyan: 14-9 (0-4 NESCAC)
Williams: 17-5 (3-0 NESCAC)

  • In what proved to be a classic pitcher's dual, the Ephs were able to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals.
  • Julie McDonald '18 pitched great in the circle as she went the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out four. McDonald surrendered no walks on the afternoon.
  • Matching McDonald in the circle was Alejandra Magana who pitched six innings allowing no runs on seven hits.
  • The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth on a Priscilla Pino homerun.
  • McDonald, along with Olivia Gorman '19 laced doubles in the game.
  • Rachel Kantor '19 lead the Cardinals with two hits in the game.
  • For Williams, Alison Michalik went 2-3 on the day while Mackenzie Murphy came in to register the save for Williams, pitching one inning of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.


  • Williams got on the board first with a RBI double by Amanda Siedem to give them the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second.
  • Wesleyan would respond in the top of the third to tie the game as Isabel Linzer '17 tripled to score Gorman.
  • The Ephs retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth as a Brenna Martinez double would plate Melissa Cendejas, to give Williams the 2-1 advantage.
  • Williams would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring their lead to 6-1.
  • Brooke Bovier was able to hold the Cardinals scoreless for the remaining innings, as she pitched a complete game allowing just four hits. The Ephs would go onto win by a score of 6-1.
  • Linzer went 2-3 on the game with an RBI while McDonald and Gorman accounted for the two other Wesleyan hits.
  • Brenna Martinez went 2-2 with 2 RBIs for Williams.


  • The Cardinals will return to the diamond tomorrow as they will take on Hamilton College in a make-up doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
  • The Ephs return to action on Tuesday, April 12 as they will host RPI in doubleheader action. Game one is scheduled to being at 3:30 p.m.
