Kantor and McDonald Combine for a Shutout in Game Two As Wesleyan Sweeps Trinity

The Lead: The Wesleyan University softball team shutout Trinity College in game two of the double-header as it completed the sweep of the Bantams on Wednesday afternoon. 


  • Julie McDonald '18 got the Cardinals on the board first as her RBI double scored Olivia Gorman '19 to give Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cardinals added to their lead in the second as Rachel Kantor '19 and Izzy Linzer '17 knocked in runs to make the score 3-0.
  • Rielly Wieners '18 gave the visitors a 5-0 advantage with her 2-run homerun in the third.
  • Trinity made the score 5-3 in the bottom of the inning with a 3-run homerun by Courtney Erickson.
  • Wieners doubled home McDonald, and Jamie Hom '17 doubled home Jo Jo Diaz '20 to put the Cardinals ahead 7-3 in the seventh.
  • The Bantams added a run in the bottom of the inning on a Nicole Towner single to make the score 7-4, but Kantor would close the door as she earned her first save on the season as Wesleyan claimed the 7-4 win.


  • Game two was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Wieners singled home Gorman to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
  • Linzer executed a squeeze bunt to score Kantor and give the visitors a two run lead in the fifth.
  • Four runs in the sixth broke the game open for Wesleyan. Kendall Carr '19 tripled home two runs, while Hayley Lipson '20 and Linzer each knocked in runs to make the score 6-0.
  • Kantor and McDonald combined to pitch seven shutout innings. Kantor earned the win as she went five innings allowing just three hits. McDonald pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and walked none. 

"We played great all around today...pitching, defense & hitting. Everyone was ready to go from the first pitch and it showed. Both wins were total team efforts and everyone contributed, which is great to see!"


  • The Cardinals are scheduled to return to the diamond on Saturday, April 8th as they will host Bowdoin College in a double-header with game one beginning at 2 p.m. and game two beginning shortly after.
