MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – For the third time this season, senior forward Maddie Bledsoe of the Wesleyan University women's basketball team has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week as she helped guide the fifth-seeded Cardinals to a 63-62 road win over No. 4 Middlebury in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Saturday.
Bledsoe was terrific in her first postseason game of her collegiate career. The Newton, Mass. native recorded her eighth double-double of the season as she dropped game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds. She was an incredible 8-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-3 from downtown. Bledsoe also dished out three assists and recorded one block and one steal.
Bledsoe leads the NESCAC in rebounding by a significant margin and ranks 46th in Division III with an average of 10.6 per game, while her number in conference games only is even better at 11.3. She also ranks 14th in the conference in scoring with 10.5 points per game.
Wesleyan (17-7) defeated Middlebury (17-8) on Saturday in their first NESCAC Tournament game since 2013-14 and return to the semifinals for the first time since 2007-08. The Cardinals will play top-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 1 Amherst (25-0) for the third time this season on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
