HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Abigail Horst of the Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was named the NESCAC Player of the Week following her stellar performance in an upset win over No. 13 Bates College Sunday.
Horst scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Cardinals with three points in the team's 9-8 overtime win in their season-opener. Additionally, she recorded two draw controls and one caused turnover.
The sophomore's first goal of the game occurred at the 18:10 mark of the first half to put Wesleyan ahead, 3-1. She later assisted on a goal with just :01 remaining on the clock to put the home team ahead by four at halftime, 7-3. Bates would rally in the second half to force overtime, but Horst stepped up once again and scored the game-winner with 1:00 remaining.
The Cardinals return to the field Wednesday, March 8 and will host non-conference opponent Fredonia at 5 p.m.
