  • Wesleyan Named IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, Six Cardinals Earn Honor Roll Praise

    The Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was named a 2019 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) today. Additionally, six Cardinals—Grace Andonian ’20, Breanna Cavanaugh '19, Gillian Lubin ’20, Abby Manning ’20, Josie Russ ’20, and Caroline Sgaglione '19—were named to the Division III Academic Honor Roll.

    The Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team set another program record as four Cardinals were named All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Abigail Horst, Abby Manning, and Caroline Sgaglione were all named First Team selections, while Allegra Grant received Second Team honors.

  • Wesleyan Prepares for NCAA Final Four in Virginia

    The quest for their first national title continues this weekend when the eighth-ranked Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team takes on No. 3 Middlebury in the NCAA Division III Semifinals on Saturday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. Randolph-Macon and Richmond Region Tourism will serve as hosts of the Championship, with the other Semifinal game featuring No. 4 Tufts and No. 7 Salisbury at 2:30 p.m.
  • Seven Cardinals Named to IWLCA All-Region Teams

    The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its 2019 Division III All-Region Teams today, and the Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team had a program record seven selections, the most of any team in the Berkshire Region. Representing the Cardinals were First Team honorees Allegra Grant, Abigail Horst, Abby Manning, Caroline Sgaglione, and Caitlin Wood, while Breanna Cavanaugh and Julia Gretsky were named to the Second Team.
  • FINAL FOUR BOUND! Women’s Lacrosse Upsets No. 1 Gettysburg, 10-7

    The eighth-ranked Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team defeated the two-time defending national champions and No. 1 Gettysburg on the road Sunday, 10-7, to advance to the Final Four of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship. The Cardinals trailed 2-0 early but rallied and had to battle two lightning delays en route to their first-ever Quarterfinal victory.

    The Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in program history following a 13-7 win over No. 2 Washington & Lee on the campus of Gettysburg College Saturday afternoon.

    For the second year in a row, the Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team will travel to Gettysburg, Pa. to compete in the Regional Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships. The eighth-ranked Cardinals will play No. 2 Washington & Lee on Saturday, May 18 at 2:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Quarterfinals on Sunday, May 19 (2:30 p.m.) against the winner of No. 1 Gettysburg vs. Denison.

    For the second year in a row, the Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team is moving on to the Third Round of the NCAA Championships as the eighth-ranked Cardinals used a second half rally to defeat No. 9 Mary Washington on a cold, rainy Sunday at Smith Field, 11-6.
  • Women’s Lacrosse Returns to NCAA Tournament, Will Host First and Second Round Games

    For the third consecutive season, the Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament as the Cardinals earned an at-large bid with a 14-3 overall record. Wesleyan secured a First Round bye and will host Mary Washington (15-4) and Westfield State (11-9) on Saturday, May 11. The Cardinals will face the winner in the Second Round on Sunday, May 12 with a time to be determined.

The Cardinals, seeded No. 3 in the conference tournament, will play second-seeded and nationally ranked No. 5 Tufts (15-1) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the championship game scheduled for Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m.

    After a low scoring first half, Wesleyan and Connecticut College combined for 19 goals in the final 30 minutes and the Cardinals used a 5-0 run down the stretch to prevail, 14-9. Abigail Horst became the 18th player in program history to score 100 career points as she finished with seven on a game-high six goals and one assist, and Abby Manning set the new single-season program record in goals with 54, surpassing the old mark of 52 set by Becca Vogel '05 in 2005. Wesleyan also set new program records in overall wins (13) and NESCAC victories (8) as it concludes the regular season with a 13-2 mark and 8-2 league ledger.

In addition to the Little Three title, junior Abby Manning also reached another milestone as she became the fourth player in program history to score 100 career goals.
