Carrillo Prepares for NCAA Wrestling Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa ? Devon Carrillo '18 of the Wesleyan University wrestling team will compete in the two-day, 2016 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships from March 11-12 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hosted by Cornell College.

The tournament begins Friday, March 11 at noon ET. All tournament information, including live scoring and ticket information, can be viewed at the championship central page HERE.

Carrillo, a two-sport athlete, will compete in the 197-pound weight class this weekend. After a first round bye, the sophomore will face the winner of top-seeded David Welch of Roger Williams University and Mason Baumgartner of Concordia (Wis.) University.

Carrillo entered the NCAA regionals as the fifth-seed and finished third overall to qualify for the national tournament. In addition to placing third, the sophomore also earned the Gorrarian Award for most pins. He recorded three in five matches. 

The Middletown native has excelled all season, and boasts an impressive 15-2 record entering the tournament. During the regionals, Carrillo went 4-1 with his only loss against the No. 1 wrestler in the country, Welch.
