MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University soccer season openers have been rescheduled to tomorrow, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.
The women's home opener originally scheduled for tonight against UMass-Boston has been rescheduled to Thursday (7 p.m.) at Smith Field in Middletown, Conn., due to the threat of inclement weather with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the forecast.
The Cardinals, who have 17 returning players and nine new faces, are thrilled to get the season underway, with NESCAC Conference action starting against visiting Tufts on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) at Jackson Field.
On the men's side, the Cardinals were scheduled to open the 2017 season on Wednesday (7 p.m.) at WPI, but the group will now compete in its season opener on Thursday (7 p.m.) in Worcester, Mass.
The Cardinals, who have reached the NCAA Division III Tournament five times under 19th-year head coach Geoff Wheeler, have 16 returning letter winners from 2016 and nine newcomers. The unit will compete in its home opener on Saturday (6 p.m.) against Swarthmore at Smith Field.
