HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Laila Samy of the 26th-ranked Wesleyan University women's squash team has been named to the 2016 All-NESCAC First Team, as selected by the conference coaches and announced Thursday by the league office.

Samy – the 2015 NESCAC Rookie of the Year – shined in her second season with the Cardinals en route to her second consecutive first team honor. She has also solidified herself as one of the top players in the country after posting back-to-back stellar seasons.

The Cairo, Egypt native, who ranked No. 9 in the country following the conclusion of her freshman campaign, currently sits at No. 4 in the latest College Squash Association (CSA) women's rankings. With a perfect 17-0 record from the No. 1 position, Samy has cruised past her competition all season, and swept all but one match this year.

The sophomore helped guide Wesleyan to its third Epps Cup (D Division) title in program history as the Cardinals defeated No. 31 Vassar College (9-0), No. 27 William Smith College (5-4) and No. 25 Dickinson College (6-3) to claim the crown.

Wesleyan finished the season with a 9-12 overall dual-match record and await the CSA Individual Championship selections. The tournament will be held March 4-6 in Stamford, Conn. at Chelsea Piers.
