HATFIELD, Mass. – Ale Lampietti '19 of the 23rd-ranked Wesleyan University women's squash team was named the Harrow Sports College Squash Women's Player of the Week, for the week ending 1/15/2017.
Lampietti had an impressive stretch in which she went 4-0 overall, going 2-0 in the No. 8 position and 2-0 in the No. 9 spot. She started the week with a thrilling 3-2 win over Bowdoin's No. 8, Mariela Mendoza. After trailing 0-2, she responded with three consecutive victories to win the match (10-12, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9), which helped Wesleyan seal a 5-4 victory over then-No. 18 Bowdoin.
The sophomore also defeated Sinclair Meggit of Tufts in the No. 9 position, 3-1 (11-4, 11-7, 11-13, 11-3) and swept Sophie Jackson of Haverford in the No. 8 spot, 3-0 (11-3, 11-0, 11-0). Lampietti wrapped up the week with another 3-0 sweep as she defeated Anna Gildea of Colby in the No. 9 position (11-8, 11-1, 11-4).
Lampietti's strong play helped Wesleyan move up one spot in the Dunlop Women's College Squash Association (CSA) Team Rankings. The Cardinals, now ranked No. 23 in the nation, are 6-5 overall this year and return to action this weekend with the Pioneer Valley Invite. On Saturday, Jan. 21 they will play Mount Holyoke (12 p.m.) and Colby (4 p.m.) at Mount Holyoke College, and will wrap up the tournament against Hamilton (12 p.m.) on Sunday at Smith College.
