MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — All four of the Wesleyan University women's tennis seniors were winners as part of the Cardinals' 9-0 victory over Colby College on Saturday, which also marked the end of their regular season and Senior Day for Eudice Chong, Aashli Budhiraja, Helen Klass-Warch, and Nicole McCann.
While the day was a celebration of the careers of all four student-athletes, there is still plenty of tennis left ahead of them, and as they proved, they still have more left in the tank. In doubles, Chong paired with junior Victoria Yu for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while McCann and Klass-Warch won 8-6 at No. 2. Rounding out the doubles sweep was sophomore Julia Kim and freshman Alissa Nakamoto, who won 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles, Wesleyan didn't drop a set on any court. Chong, Budhiraja, and Klass-Warch all won convincingly at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 respectively, with no player dropping more than two games. Along with the three seniors, other singles winners were Yu at No. 2, who won 6-2, 6-2, Nakamoto at No. 4 who battled through a tough match to win 6-4, 7-5, and freshman Zoe Klass-Warch, who was nearly perfect in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
With the win, Wesleyan ends its regular season with an 11-2 record and a ranking of No. 5 in the country, a particularly impressive number when considering that when the current senior class were freshmen, the team was outside the top 40.
- Wesleyan will compete in the NESCAC Championships next weekend at Amherst College. Seeding and matchups will be announced early next week.
