Women's Tennis Opens Home Schedule With 9-0 Win Over Wilkes

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—A week after an outstanding 4-1 spring break trip to Florida to start their spring season, the Wesleyan women's tennis team opened the home portion of their schedule on Sunday with a dominant 9-0 win over Wilkes University.  Senior Victoria Yu '19 and her sister, freshman Kristina, led the way with two victories each, with the siblings combining to win at #1 doubles and also scoring straight set wins at #1 and #2 singles.

  • The Yu sisters were solid from start to finish, playing equally well from the baseline and net in an 8-1 win.

  • At #2, sophomore Polina Kiseleva and Venia Yeung were relentless in an 8-0 win.

  • Sophomore Zoe Klass-Warch and freshman Megan Tran joined forces for the first time, looking extremely solid in their debut, cruising to an 8-0 victory.

  • While the Cardinals were impressive on every court, Victoria Yu at #1 and Klass-Warch at #6 were particularly noteworthy, as neither dropped a game in 6-0, 6-0 wins.

  • #2, 3, and 4 were all nearly as straightforward, with Kristina Yu, sophomore Alissa Nakamoto, and fellow sophomore Daniela Alvarez all winning comprehensively in straight sets.

  • At #5, freshman Megan Tran scored her second victory of the day—and her first career dual match singles victory—with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Wesleyan now enters the NESCAC portion of their schedule, starting with a midweek match against Connecticut College on Wednesday. The home match against the Camels is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
