#4 Cardinals Take Care of Business From Start to Finish, Defeat #40 Colby 9-0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Fourth-ranked Wesleyan women's tennis improved to 12-2 this season with a 9-0 win against #40 Colby on Saturday. The Cardinals were disciplined and efficient for the entirety of the match, taking control right from the first points in doubles and never relinquishing it as they cruised to the sweep without dropping a set.

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Victoria and Kristina Yu did well in handling the windy conditions at #1, shifting and switching well in an 8-4 win.

  • At #2, it was the same powerful groundstrokes as usual from Polina Kiseleva and Venia Yeung, who took their match 8-2.

  • The #3 match was equally straightforward, with Alissa Nakamoto and Alexis Almy taking care of business 8-3.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kiseleva was the most dominant performer in singles, playing steady, aggressive tennis in a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3.

  • Similarly comprehensive victories came at #2, 4, 5, and 6, where the Cardinals won rapidly in straight sets on each court, with Kristina Yu, Almy, Daniela Alvarez, and Megan Tran all winners.

  • At #1, Victoria Yu was pushed in the first set by Carly Levitz, ranked #12 in the Northeast. The third-ranked Yu had to battle back from down a break multiple times before making her move and finally pulling away for the first set, and from there she rolled to a 7-5, 6-1 victory to finish off the 9-0 victory for Wesleyan.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Cards wrap up their regular season tomorrow with another home match at 10 AM. This time around they'll face #39 Hamilton.
