MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Wesleyan University women's outdoor track and field team will compete at the 2016 NESCAC Women's Track & Field Championships, which will be held this Saturday, April 30 at Pratt Field on the campus of Amherst College.
Amherst will serve as this year's host, and competition will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's discus, the women's hammer throw, the men's long jump and the women's 10,000 meter run.
The Cardinals enter the championship coming off of an impressive showing at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational, which saw the team claim six wins. Wesleyan was especially impressive in the 1,500-meter run, as the Cardinals claimed the top five spots.
Senior Alexis Walker will look to finish her career with wins in the 100-meter dash and the long jump events - she won both events in 2013. Ellie Martin '16, the reigning NESCAC champion in the 400m dash (57.49), looks to repeat, while Kiley Kennedy '16 enters the pole vault with the best mark in the conference. Kennedy recorded a leap of 3.45m last Saturday at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational en route to first place.
