BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Ivie Uzamere of the Wesleyan University women's track & field team competed against the best Division III athletes in the weight throw on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala.

Uzamere did not finish with a score in the event due to fouls on her three attempts. Mia Bennett of Carthage posted a mark of 18.01 meters on her fifth attempt en route to earning first-place honors, as a total of 17 athletes suited up for the event.

Uzamere compiled an outstanding 2018 indoor season, as she was named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Region Team in the weight throw and shot put during her rookie year.

She currently holds the school record in the weight throw event with a 17.45 during the Last Chance Meet on March 3 at Tufts University. The White Plains, N.Y. native has tallied seven first-place nods between the weight throw and shot put this season, including sweeping the two events at three different meets.

Additionally, the elite athlete posted a personal-best mark of 12.89 in the shot put during the Branwen Smith-King Invitational on Jan. 27 in Medford, Mass.
