CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Sara Pinsonault of the Wesleyan University women's track & field team finished second overall with a school-record time of 11:13.40 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the New England Division III Outdoor Championship, as the Cardinals placed 17th overall out of 33 teams on Thursday-Saturday at MIT.
Pinsonault, who hails from Sparta, N.J., has broken the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase three times this season, with the others coming at the Silfen Invitational and the NESCAC Championship.
Junior Jenny Aguiar also starred during the meet, as she placed third overall during the 400m (57.95) out of a field of 18 runners.
Junior Katie Maehl performed sensationally during the heptathlon, compiling a score of 4,014 points, which was good for fourth overall. Additionally, the Waltham, Mass. native garnered runner-up accolades in the javelin event during the heptathlon with a mark of 35.11m.
Freshman Becky Lopez-Anido led the way for the team in the 800m, placing 10th overall with a time of 2:16.28, while freshman Lizzie Edwards was the 11th-place performer in the 5,000m, clocking a time of 18:49.05. During the 1,500m, junior Julia Mitchell placed 12th overall with a time of 4:42.58.
Next on the schedule for the Cardinals is the Open New England Championship on Friday and Saturday at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H.
