Women's Volleyball Ends Season With a 3-0 Loss to Amherst

Amherst College Women's Volleyball defeats Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-12) in NESCAC women's volleyball action Sat. Oct. 31 in Silloway Gym. The win improves the Lord Jeffs' overall record to 21-3 and 8-2 in the NESCAC, while the loss drops the Cardinals to 5-15, and 1-9. Wesleyan will miss the NESCAC Tournament, and Amherst will finish as the #2 seed with their 8-2 conference record. 

The Lord Jeffs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set and held extended it to 15-5 with an 11-5 run. Amherst then ran off 14 of the next 19 points, and finished the set on a 5-0 spurt to win the first set 25-9. 

Wesleyan bounced back in the second set by taking a 5-2 lead, but the Lord Jeffs battled back to take a 18-17. The Lord Jeff's never looked back and took seven of the final 10 points to end the second set 25-20. 

The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in the final frame, but Amherst once again came back to tie the match at four with a 4-0 run of their own. The Lord Jeffs then took a 20-11 lead with a 16-7 run. Amherst would win five of the final six points to end the set and match 25-12. 

Junior Maggie Danner led the Lord Jeffs by swinging .643 on the afternoon with 10 kills. She added a dig and two block assists in the victory. Sophomore Marialexa Natsis tallied nine kills, while Nicole Gould had seven kills. Senior setter Nicole Carter assisted on 35 of Amherst's 41 kills and senior defensive specialist ended with 13 digs for the Lord Jeffs. 

Wesleyan was led by Sarah Swenson's six kills and .294 hitting percentage. Madeleine Lundberg added five kills and seven digs, and senior Abby Southam had five kids and five digs in her final match. Kelsey Tam tallied 18 assists in the loss.
