Women's Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Matchup With Westfield State On Road

Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball fell to Westfield State University 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) on Thursday, Oct. 22 in a non-conference matchup. Westfield improves to 11-12 with the win and the Cardinals stand at 4-11 and 1-7 in the NESCAC.

Westfield State erased a 19-16 deficit in the second set, and produced a seven point rally in the third set when trailing 15-14 to preserve the straight set win. 

Wesleyan's Sarah Swenson led the Cardinal attack with 11 kills and Kelsey Tam had 22 assists. Heidi Westerman added seven assists. Rachel Savage and Madeleine Lundberg each had 13 digs, and Sarah Swenson chipped in five kills and five digs.

Kendyl Haney recorded a game- high 12 kills, while Shea and Howe connected for seven each. The Owls' freshman libero Lizzie Taylor had 25 digs on the night.

Courtney Ryan dished out a game- high 28 assists in the win. She assisted on 28 of the 37 kills.  

Wesleyan's Sarah Swenson (Woodstock, Conn./ Woodstock Academy) led the Cardinal attack with 11 kills and Kelsey Tam (Basking Ridge, N.J./ Ridge) added 22 assists. The Owls landed eight service aces over the Cardinal's three. 

Both teams head to the Hall of Fame Classic over the weekend and begin play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westfield opens with Trinity at Smith College and Wesleyan draws Brandeis at Amherst College.
