Wesleyan played their first NESCAC Conference game of the year against the Purple and White of Amherst, and were defeated 30-71.
Wesleyan (2-1, 0-0 NESCAC) was led in scoring by Sophomore forward Maddie Bledsoe, who scored six points off the bench. Senior Kaylie Williams, Freshmen Tara Berger and Olivia Gorman all contributed five points apiece. Williams also finished the game with a team high eight rebounds.
Amherst built an early lead and would end the first quarter leading 17-4. Wesleyan was able to find a little rhythm in the second quarter, but could not catch up to Amherst who went into halftime leading 41-14.
The second half was just like the first as Amherst continued to build upon their lead. Amherst (3-0, 1-0 NESCAC) was lead by Ali Doswell who scored 17 points in the game and Meghan Sullivan came off the bench to score nine points for the Purple and White. Amherst would go on to win 71-30.
Wesleyan plays next at home Sunday November 29th against the University of St. Joseph. Tip is at 2PM.
