Middletown, Conn. - The Wesleyan Women's Ice Hockey team (1-2-1) lost 7-4 against the College of Holy Cross (8-2) Sunday afternoon.
Holy Cross got on the board first, with an unassisted goal by Junior Izzy Bagi. That goal was followed by another Holy Cross goal about a minute later by Freshman Julie Matthias which was assisted by Junior Erin Hall. Holy Cross would score once more in the frame, on a goal by Senior Mackenzie Boardman, which was assisted by Bagi and Hall. Holy Cross would lead 3-0 at the end of the first period.
The second period saw Holy Cross build up their lead to four, on a goal by Senior Taylor McGee which was assisted by Sophomore Kara Violette. Wesleyan creep back into the game as they scored two goals in the period to cut the Holy Cross lead in half. Wesleyan's first goal was scored by Senior Jenny Robinson and assisted by Junior Jess Brennan and Freshman Gina Mangiafridda. Robinson scored her second of the game with 18:17 gone by in the second, and that goal was assisted by Freshman Sara Gross and Senior Laura Mead. Wesleyan still trailed by 2, as Holy Cross closed the period with a 4-2 lead.
The third period saw the teams combine for five goals in the 20 minute frame. Holy Cross got the scoring going with 2 goals to bring their lead to 6-2. Their first goal of the period was scored by Bagi with 3:58 gone by in the period. That goal was assisted by Boardman and Violette. The second Holy Cross goal was scored about four minutes later by Matthias, which was assisted by Sophmore Emily Lissner. Wesleyan got back on the board to cut the lead to 6-3 about a minute later, with a goal by Sophmore Maddie Nash which was assisted by Junior Rachel Aronow. Holy Cross then came right back with a goal of their own to put the lead back to 7-3 with a goal by Junior Elizabeth Scala which was assisted by Violette and Boardman. Wesleyan answered late in the period with a goal by Junior Ellery Sarosi that was assisted by Aronow. Wesleyan would go onto lose the game 7-4.
Wesleyan returns to action on Friday December 4th at home against Willliams at 7PM. Holy Cross next plays on Tuesday December 8th as they take on Connecticut College at 7PM.
