Madeline Keane '16 Ties First-Ever Meeting with St. Lawrence in 63rd Minute but Saints Get Late Goal for 2-1 Win

St. Lawrence netted the deciding goal in the 85th minute, breaking a 1-1 deadlock, as the unbeaten Saints (4-0) secured a 2-1 victory over homestanding Wesleyan Sat., Sept. 12 in the first-ever meeting of the teams.  Wesleyan is right back on the pitch Sunday, traveling to Albertus Magnus.

The winner was a well-placed shot into the lower left corner past a diving keeper Meghan Hanan '18, who tried to recover after positioning herself based on the assist maker's status.

Wesleyan got its goal in the 63rd minute from Madeline Keane '16, her first of the season, as she got a cross from the right side from Carly Swenson '17 near the top of the box.  With two defenders on her, she made a couple of moves before going hard to her left, creating just enough space to smack a hard, rising shot from 16 yards away over the head of the Saint netminder.

The Saints had taken a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute on a centering pass to an open Saint who had just about five yards left to deposit the ball into the Cardinal net past Hanan.

With St. Lawrence outshooting Wesleyan, 17-10, in the outing, Hanan picked up nine saves, giving her 14 for the year with just two goals against.  St. Lawrence had the only corner kicks taken in the game with four.
