Wrestling Defeats WPI and Trinity, Falls to Roger Williams

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wesleyan University wrestling team went 2-1 in Saturday's quad meet, hosted by WPI, with wins over the Engineers (18-16) and Trinity College (40-5), and a loss to Roger Williams (27-15).

In Saturday's first round action, the Cardinals fell to Roger Williams, 27-15. Isaiah Bellamy '18 picked up the first win for Wesleyan with a fall at 197. Frank Crippen '17 took a 2-1 decision at 133 before Carter Armendarez '18 and Christopher Siracusa '16 claimed back-to-back matches. Armendarez registered an 11-5 decision at 149 and Siracusa earned a 4-1 decision at 157.

Wesleyan edged WPI in the second round, 18-16. Roy Forys '19 picked up a 10-8 decision at 174, Taran Carr '16 claimed a 9-6 decision at 184, Bellamy registered a 3-1 decision at 197 and Devon Carrillo '18 picked up a 9-3 decision at 285. Trailing with two matches remaining, Armendarez and Siracusa registered decisions of 7-3 and 6-3, respectively, to earn the win.

In round three, the Cardinals won big with a 40-5 victory over the Bantams, claiming nine of the 10 matches. Forys, Carr, Bellamy, Carrillo, Dylan Jones '19, Crippen, Shane Ross '19, Armendarez and Siracusa all prevailed over their opponents en route to the commanding win.

The Cardinals return to the mat Saturday, Jan. 23 for the NEWA Dual Championhip hosted by Bridgewater State beginning at 9:30 a.m.
