Northfield, VT- The Men's Hockey team traveled to Northfield, VT to take on the Cadets of Norwich University in the 2016 Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament. The Cardinals were defeated by the Cadets by a score of 8-0.
The Cadets opened up the scoring in the first with a goal by Junior William Pelletier at the 9:43 mark of the first period, slipping home a rebound past Cardinals goaltender, Dawson Sprigings. The goal was assisted by Sophmores Alec Brandrup and Mitch Byrne.
In the second, the Cadets continued to roll on offense, scoring three goals on eight shots. Pelletier made it 2-0 at the 2:02 mark of the second period by slapping a quick shot past Sprigings. Juniors Austin Surowiec and Brian Rowland picked up the assists. Freshman defenseman Dave Robertson made it 3-0 at the 5:33 mark of the second period with a slap shot that got by Springings off assists from Junior Cody Smith and Pelletier. Junior Tyler Piacentini capped the second period scoring with his fourth goal of the year off assists from Sophmore Kevin Salvucci and Junior Anthony Flaherty.
The Cadets continued their scoring frenzy into the third period as they scored four more goals. Smith, Salvucci, Junior Paul Russell and Surowiec each tallied goals in the third period to finish off the scoring. Pelletier would finish the night with six points for the Cadets. For the Cardinals, Sprigings finished with 29 saves.
Wesleyan looks to rebound tomorrow as they face Manhattanville tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the consolation game of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament while the Cadets will face Trinity for the championship.
