Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Alex Carlacci and Chad Malinowski Net Two Points Each but Men's Hockey Falls in OT to Manhattanville 4-3

Northfield, VT - The men's ice hockey team faced Manhattanville in the consolation game of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament and were defeated in overtime 4-3.

The Cardinals, looking to bounce back from a 0-8 defeat last night at the hands of the host school, Norwich, fell behind in the first period on a goal by Manhattanville Freshman Jeff Beck which was assisted by Sophomore Thimmy Garbenius Junior Teagan Waugh. The Cardinals would end the period down by one.

Manhattanville scored 42 seconds into the second period to give themselves a 2-0 lead. The goal was scored by Sophomore Stephen Gaul and was assisted by fellow sophomore Kevin Loppatto and Senior Matt Coleman. Wesleyan notched their first goal of the tournament on a nice unassisted goal by Senior Alex Carlacci to bring the Manhattanville lead down to one.

Wesleyan would go into the third period on a power play, and were able to take advantage as Senior Jay Matthews found the back of the net and tied up the game. The goal was assisted by Freshman Chad Malinowski. Wesleyan would get their first lead of the game with 18:12 gone by on a goal by Malinowski which was assisted by Sophomore Dylan Holze and Carlacci. Manhattanville would quickly answer about a minute later with a power play goal of their own scored by Garbenius and was assisted by Junior Nolan Marshall. The teams would go into overtime tied at 3.

In the overtime period, Marshall would give Manhattanville the victory on his goal at 2:49 which was assisted by Waugh and Junior Phil Dinner.. For Wesleyan, Junior Dawson Sprigings made 25 saves.

The Cardinals drop to 0-6-4 on the season while Manhattanville improves to 8-4-1. Wesleyan returns to the ice in search of their first win on Saturday January 9th at 7 p.m. at Middleburg College.
