Four Different Goal Scorers Lead the Cardinals over Nichols, 4-0

Harrisville, R.I. - The Cardinals traveled to Rhode Island to take on the Bison of Nichols College. in an afternoon contest in which the Cardinals came out victorious for their second victory of the year, defeating the Bison by a score of 4-0. Wesleyan improves to 2-6-0 on the year while Nichols falls to 1-11-0 on the year.

The Cardinals, coming off an overtime loss to Hamilton on Sunday afternoon, spent a good majority of the first period in the offensive zone, as the peppered the Nichols goaltender, Sophomore Lindsay O'Connell with 17 shots in the period. Junior Captain Ellery Sarosi was finally able to get a shot past O'Connell at the 5:48 mark of the first. The goal, Sarosi's third on the year, was assisted by Seniors Laura Mead and Lottie Barton. Wesleyan would continue to control the tempo of the game, and were able to convert another goal at the 15:37 mark as Freshman Grace Keogh got one by O'Connell for her second goal on the season. The goal was assisted by Senior Jenny Robinson. The Cardinals would go into the break leading 2-0.

The Cardinals carried their offensive momentum into the second period, as they scored yet again at the 6:46 mark. This goal, a power play goal, was scored by Mead, her third on the season. Wesleyan continued to pepper O'Connell with shots, taking 11 in the period, and their defense did a good job of not allowing Nichols many scoring opportunities. The Bison were only able to get two shots off in the second, both were saved by Cardinals'  Senior net minder, Corinne Rivard. The Cardinals were not done scoring as Junior Madzie Carroll made the red light go off with her first goal on the year at the 17:24 mark. Her goal was assisted by Junior Rachel Aronow, and the Cardinals would go into the third period with a 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals were able to hold onto their 4-0 lead, and Rivard was able to complete the shutout by making 14 saves for her first victory on the season. O'Connell made 33 saves in the game for Nichols. Mead lead the Cardinals with two points in the contest. 

Wesleyan returns to action on Friday January 8th at home against Colby. The puck will drop at 7pm. Nichols next game will be January 8th at Endicott at 3pm.
