MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Wesleyan and Colby were right back at it this afternoon, and Colby was able to avenge their loss to the Cardinals last night, by scoring four goals in the opening period of play on the way to a 6-3 victory over the Cardinals.
The Cardinals fall to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference while the Mules improve to 4-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
Colby opened up the scoring with a goal from Sasha Fritts, her sixth on the season. Her goal was assisted by Katie Tang. About four minutes later, the Mules scored again on a goal from Delaney Flynn which was assisted by Tang and Katie McLaughlin. Just 2:04 later, Mikayla McLaughlin made it a 3-0 game. Be Davis was able to net a power play goal for the Mules who would take a 4-0 advantage. The Cardinals would get on the board thanks to a power play goal from Junior Ellery Sarosi which was assisted by Freshman Sarah Goss and Senior Lottie Barton.
The Cardinals would enter the second period down 4-1, but they were able to get another goal to bring the Mules lead to 2 goals. Sophomore Cici Frattasio scored her fourth goal on the year to bring Wesleyan within two. Credit Juniors Madzie Carroll and Sam Curran with the assists. Colby would answer with a goal of their own which was scored by Megan Fortier and assisted by Nikki Donato and Jacqueline Seymour. The Mules would end the period with a 5-2 advantage.
Colby would score once again in the third on a goal by Fritts, her second of the game. It was assisted by Tang, who notched three assists. Carroll would get a goal for the Cardinals which was assisted by Sarosi and Frattasio, and the Mules would go onto win 6-3.
The Cardinals return to the ice on Friday January 15th when they travel to play Connecticut College at 7pm.
