The Lead: The Wesleyan University women's ice hockey team used goals by five different players as they claimed their first victory of the year, knocking off Sacred Heart by a score of 5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Jess Brennan '17 notched her first goal of the season as she forced the puck past Pioneers' goaltender, Devan Kane to give the home team a 1-0 lead at 14:01 in the first period. Alicia Nickolenko '20 was credited with the assist.
- The Cardinals would extend their just over a minute later as Rachel Aronow '17 found the back of the net at 15:13 in the first. Her second goal of the year was assisted by Allie Damren '20 and Cici Frattasio '18.
- Carly Radovich brought SHU to within one at 17:08 in the first, as her power play goal brought the Wesleyan lead down to 2-1.
- Wesleyan brought the lead back to two at 11:54 in the second on a goal by Alexis Banquer '20.
- The Pioneers would bring the deficit to one goal in the second period as Teagan Ketchum scored at 17:51 to make the score 3-2.
- On the powerplay, with time running out in the second, Kendall Carr '19 laced a one-timer that just cleared the glove of Kane, making it into the back of the net before the clock hit zero, giving Wesleyan the 4-2 lead. Madzie Carroll '17 and Frattasio assisted on the goal.
- Just one minute into the third, Brittany Smith would take a pass from Ketchum and sneak the puck past Cardinal goaltender Allegra Grant '20 to bring SHU back to within one at 4-3.
- Alex Horton '18 would go top-shelf on Kane to bring the lead back to two goals at 5-3. The goal scored at 13:01 was her first on the year.
- The Cardinals would hold onto their 2-goal lead and claim the 5-3 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Grant made 31 saves in the game, earning her first collegiate win.
- Both teams went 1-5 in power play opportunities.
- The visitors held the edge in shots at 34-28.
- Wesleyan won 22 faceoffs, while Sacred Heart won 32.

- The Cardinals will return to the ice on Tuesday, November 22nd as they will travel to Salve Regina for a 7 p.m. contest.
