Seven Cardinals Compete on Day 2 of MIT Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seven members of the Wesleyan University men's tennis team competed at the MIT Invitational Saturday, with Steven Chen '18 and Andrew Finkelman '21 playing in the singles draw and Princeton Carter '20, Chen, Cam Daniels '18, Zach Fleischman '21, Adrian Roji '21 and Marcus Sweeney '21 representing the Cardinals in the doubles bracket.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Chen, the top-seed in singles action, defeated Kevin Ma of Amherst 6-1, 6-2, but fell to Austin Barr of Williams in a thriller, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
  • Finkelman advanced to the quarterfinals as well but lost to Kyle Schlanger of Middlebury by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Carter and Sweeney were the only Wesleyan doubles team to advance as they defeated Benjamin Lebowitz and Ananth Raghavan of Williams. However, they would go on to lose to Sean Wei and Nathan Kaplan of Amherst in the next round, 8-1.

UP NEXT:

  • The MIT Invitational wraps up the fall season for the men's tennis team. The spring season begins March 12 at the Stag-Hen Invitational.
