The Lead: The Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision against Middlebury College on Friday night at Chip Kenyon Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Walker Harris '20 would have a breakaway opportunity in the first, however his shot was denied by Panthers' netminder, Stephen Kline
• Dawson Sprigings '17 made an excellent save on Mark McLellan in the second period to keep the game scoreless.
• At 12:16 in the second, Andrew Neary would break the scoreless tie with his first goal of the season. His score was assisted by Danny Jacobs and Travis Stephens.
• Wesleyan put the pressure on in the third period as Andy Espinoza '19 had his backhanded shot denied by Kline. Luke Babcock '19 also had an excellent scoring chance, but his rang off the post.
• Rob Harbison '17 made a nice block on Kamil Tkaczuk to help keep the Cardinals within one goal.
• Wesleyan would pull Sprigings for the final 1:10 of the game and Chad Malinowski '19 nearly tied it, but his shot was turned away by Kline and the Panthers would claim the 1-0 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Wesleyan finished the game with a 25-18 advantage in shots.
• Sprigings made 17 saves in the game. 

UP NEXT:

• The Cardinals are back on the ice tomorrow, Feb. 4 as they will take on Little Three rival Williams College at 3 p.m.
• The Panthers are also in action tomorrow and will host Trinity for a 3 p.m. contest.
