The Lead: The No. 8 Wesleyan University women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the year with a 7-2 win over No. 11 Washington University-St. Louis Wednesday in Claremont, Calif.
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
- Eudice Chong '18 and Julia Kim '20 took No. 1 doubles, 8-5, while Victoria Yu '19 and Aashli Budhiraja '18 won No. 2 doubles (8-4), and Nicole McCann '18 and Dasha Dubinsky '18 claimed No. 3 doubles (9-7).
SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS:
- In a matchup of two of the nation's top singles players, third-ranked Chong edged fourth-ranked Rebecca Ho in the No. 1 position by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
- Yu, ranked No. 15 in the country, cruised to wins of 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles, and Budhiraja claimed No. 3 singles, 6-3 6-3.
- McCann won a three-set thriller in No. 5 singles against Lisa Chionis. After dropping the first set, 6-4, she responded with wins of 7-6 (7-4) and 10-5.
