The Lead: The Wesleyan University softball team fell to Little Three rival Amherst College by a 6-1 score on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Julia Turner hit a bases clearing triple to center with two outs in the fourth to give the Mammoths a 3-0 lead.
- The Cardinals put runners on first and second in the bottom of the fourth but were unable to get a run across.
- Amherst added three more runs in the top of the fifth on a 2-run double from Alena Marovitz and an RBI single from Kate Kopatic to go ahead 6-0.
- Jo Jo Diaz '20 scored on a passed ball to make the score 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Christina Zaccardi '17 made a great diving catch in center to rob Ally Kido of an extra-base hit in the top of the seventh.
- The Mammoths would retire the Cardinals in order in the bottom of the seventh as they claimed the 6-1 win.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Izzy Linzer '17, Jamie Hom '17, Hayley Lipson '20, and Kendall Carr '19 each registered hits for Wesleyan.
- Lauren Tuiskula and Kopatic led Amherst with two hits a piece.
UP NEXT:
- The Little Three rivals will conclude their series tomorrow, Saturday April 15th, with a double-header in Amherst, Mass. Game one will begin at 1 p.m. with game two beginning at approximately 3 p.m.
